Sometimes the hardest part of life is realizing you taught people how to treat you.
When you spend years keeping people at a distance, staying guarded, acting like you don’t need anyone, people believe you. They stop reaching. They assume you’re fine alone.
Then one day you look around and realize you’re always the friend, never the first choice.
Always included, but rarely chosen.
Always there, but somehow still on the outside.
The truth is, not everyone is built for easy connection. Some of us are wired differently. We think too much, feel too much, trust too little. We learn to protect our peace so well that sometimes we accidentally lock ourselves inside it.
But being alone and being independent are not the same thing.
People can’t always love you through walls you refuse to open.
Sometimes the growth is learning to let people in.
To risk being understood.
To stop assuming you have to carry everything alone.
The right people do exist.
Sometimes they’re just waiting for you to stop pushing them away.
And maybe being chosen starts with believing you’re worth choosing.
